An
orthopedic surgeon is a physician specializing in
the health care needs of patients with
musculoskeletal and sports medicine related
problems. We specialize in the care of
injuries and diseases of bones and joints of the
arms, hands, legs, feet, and spine, as well as
related ligaments, tendons and muscles.
Treatment may involve:
•
Arthroscopy
• Total joint replacement
• Treatment of sports injuries
• Treatment of spine injuries
• Fracture care
An
orthopedic surgeon has completed many years of
training, including four years of medical school and
five years of internship/residency in orthopedics.
Some orthopedic surgeons also complete an additional
year of sub-specialty training in orthopedics. To
become board certified an orthopedic surgeon must
pass an extensive written examination followed by a
rigorous oral examination.
All
Tallgrass Surgical Specialists are board certified
orthopedic surgeons. They also keep current on
trends in orthopedic and sports medicine through
continuing education seminars. Our surgeons are on
staff at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center,
Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital and Tallgrass
Surgical Center.
The
orthopedic and sports medicine group consists of 5
orthopedic surgeons, 2 physician assistants,
registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, one
certified athletic trainer, X-ray technicians,
insurance and office personnel. We encourage and
maintain communication with your referring physician
to create a working partnership for your care.
In
addition to our medical staff, our group includes an
athletic trainer. Steve Ice, highly respected head
athletic trainer at Washburn University, brings more
than 20 years of experience to our staff. His
expertise includes education, patient care and
nursing assistance.
