Michael J. Schmidt, MD, FACS
From Wichita, Kansas, Dr. Michael
Schmidt is a graduate of the University of Kansas and
completed his medical degree at the University Of Kansas
School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas. He completed
his Orthopedic Surgical Residency at the University of
Nebraska Hospital and affiliated hospitals in Omaha,
Nebraska. Dr. Schmidt is Board certified in Orthopedic
Surgery and is a member of the American Academy of
Orthopedic Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of
Surgeons, member of the Mid-America Orthopedic Society
and past President of the Kansas Orthopedic Society. Dr.
Schmidt specializes in total knee, hip and shoulder
replacements, fracture care and sports medicine,
including knee, shoulder, ankle and elbow arthroscopy.
Dr. Schmidt has
been practicing Orthopedic Surgery in Topeka since 1984.
Having seen many trends in orthopedics arise and become
mainstay, Dr. Schmidt strives to stay on the cutting
edge but utilizes his common sense and experience to
provide the most appropriate care for his patients,
whether surgical or non-surgical. Recent Orthopedic
advances incorporated into his practice include
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), partial knee
replacements, and locking plates for fracture fixation.
Dr. Schmidt was honored as one of America's Top
Orthopedic Surgeons in 2004-2005. His approach to
Orthopedic care has led to his longstanding role as
Orthopedic Consultant to Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS)
of Kansas and to recent Chairmanship of the BCBS Kansas
Orthopedic liaison committee.
When not in the
office, Dr. Schmidt enjoys boating, gardening, singing
in the church choir, and creating home movies on his
Mac. His lifelong interest and experience in the sport
of competitive swimming has earned him National
Certification as a USA Swimming and Diving Stroke and
Turn Judge.
